Type 2 Diabetes – the facts
Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition which can trigger serious health complications. As type 2 diabetes can be largely asymptomatic (without symptoms), it is estimated many people may have type 2 diabetes without realising it. Current figures show for every person diagnosed with diabetes, a further one person goes undiagnosed and according to Diabetes Australia a total of 1.7 million Australians currently have type 2 diabetes.
The Diabetes Program - What we do
Remedy Healthcare has developed the type 2 diabetes program in conjunction with a leading endocrinologist. It consists of a series of phone calls run over six months, at a time convenient to you. The aim of the telephone based program is to increase your confidence and knowledge and managing your diabetes through having a better understanding.
Topics covered in the program include:
- Understanding your medications
- What your blood results and measurements mean. Know your numbers!
- Sick day management with diabetes
- Health eating, and incorporating low G.I. foods in our diet
- Health lifestyle management
- Reducing your risk of the potential longer term complications
The program is run in addition to your usual care from your GP and/ or endocrinologist. It is an opportunity to gain additional support and education into best management of your diabetes.
